Collection: Matte Deep Teal: Velvety Collection
I love how this matte teal stoneware glaze turned out. The colour shifts from deep teal to a softer blue-green across the surface, and the matte, velvety texture feels lovely to hold. I keep making pieces in it because every time I open the kiln, they still surprise me.
How this collection grew
It started with the ceramic butter dish. I made it for myself, really — I wanted butter that stays soft and ready to spread without living in the fridge. When I brought it to markets, people kept stopping at it. And then they started asking: do you have a matching sugar bowl?
Now I do.
The sugar bowl came next. Then the cappuccino mug — wide enough for a proper layer of foam, the cup I reach for every morning. Then a yarn bowl for the knitters. A sponge holder. Slowly, a full handmade collection in this one glaze that I keep coming back to.
What's in this collection
Every piece is finished in a deep matte teal glaze over stoneware clay — a glaze that shifts between blue and green depending on the light, with a surface that feels soft and velvety under your fingers. You'll find a French butter dish, a cappuccino mug, two sugar bowls (each with their own story — one started as a salt pot before the clay had other ideas), a yarn bowl, and a sponge holder.
Each piece is wheel-thrown stoneware, hand-glazed in my studio in Latvia by an independent ceramic artist. The teal shifts a little differently on each one — and a piece from this collection makes a distinctive handmade gift for anyone drawn to pottery with real texture.
