Functional Design and Rural Quiet: Tableware for Your Everyday Rituals

The Countryside Studio

My morning always starts slowly—with a cup of coffee. I have my own favorite coffee mug that I made myself, and this quiet moment before the workday begins is essential to me. My studio is located in an old country house under a large, ancient oak tree, where quiet and peace come naturally. We are slowly renovating the house, making sure to preserve its historical charm—the wooden double-hung windows, the old wooden floors, and its authentic soul. Surrounded by wheat fields and the nearby forest, it is a place for slow living. My favorite season is summer, when everything around me blooms and thrives. This proximity to nature directly shapes the forms and colors of my pottery. There is no rush here, and that focus shows in every piece.

From a Childhood Dream to the Art Academy

I wanted to become a ceramicist since I was a child. Back then, I was deeply inspired by the plates, vases, and functional tableware created by Kornēlija Ozoliņa, a legendary artist from the renowned Ķīpsala ceramics group. Although life initially took me in another direction, that connection to clay stayed with me. Now, the circle is complete. The time I spent at the Ceramics Department of the Art Academy of Latvia was incredibly valuable. It gave me a strong foundation: technical precision, design maturity, and a solid understanding of material physics and glaze chemistry. Today, I am exactly where I belong, making handcrafted pottery and shipping my work to homes worldwide.

Beautiful in the Kitchen, Practical in Use

I love to cook, and many of the pieces that come out of my workshop are used daily in my own kitchen. I know firsthand that a beautiful mug is useless if it is uncomfortable to hold, and a plate must fit seamlessly into a modern lifestyle. For me, functional tableware must combine aesthetic clarity with everyday utility.

The pieces I make are not decorative sculptures; they are practical tools for living, patiently wheel-thrown pottery in small quantities. Every detail serves a purpose based on real-life experience. For example, few things are more frustrating than rock-hard butter straight from the fridge that ruins your bread. My French butter dish solves exactly that—using a simple water-seal method, it keeps your butter perfectly soft, fresh, and spreadable right on the counter. My stoneware mugs and espresso cups also feature a dedicated thumb-rest for an ergonomic grip. This handmade ceramics is durable, food-safe, and fully compatible with the dishwasher and microwave. It is handcrafted pottery designed to bring comfort to your slow living rituals.
